New Look!!!!!

I feel like I should be calling this blog the "Grand Re-Opening"!!! I am SUPER EXCITED about my NEW blog layout. I have been avidly reading personal blogs and I came across a couple that had been designed by Lindsey at Sweet Simplicity Designs!!! And let me tell you she has been GREAT to work with, I emailed her one day and she emailed me back within a couple of hours! I think this whole process has taken less than a week to get done, she started working right away!!! Check out my new signature at the bottom of my postings!!!

I guess this would be a good time to include you in on whats going to be changing on my blog! As I stated, in an earlier blog posting this week that this blog is my "baby." I have had so much fun writing and being creative, it started as just a fashion blog with some occasional personal information. But as I read through blogs this past week I think "The Green Eyed Lady Blog," is going to become a personal and fashion blog! This will give me a chance to tell more about myself and also still include my fashion postings.

Live, Laugh, Love & Fashion

Thanks Again for Reading and Subscribing to The Green Eyed Lady!!!

Where did the name "The Green Eyed Lady" come from???

Okay...so if you know my father you know that he gives everything and everyone a nickname or a new name! Years ago, my father owned a Sea Green colored Toyota Tercel
(1992 to be exact)...
Since the car was green he called it "The Green Eyed Lady," this car was his baby, then eventually he gave the car to my sister when she was in high school but the name stayed around and eventually turned into one of my many nicknames. On my birth certificate it says my eyes are Hazel, however, they actually change colors (hazel (primary color), green, brown, and occasionally grey)...I was looking for a catchy name for my blog and I think my sister and my mom suggested I use "The Green Eyed Lady."
Below is a picture of me when my eyes were green...this is the only one I found searching through my facebook pictures...LOL!

The End! LOL!

I hope you like the story of how the name of my blog came to be!!!
Yes, the blog "The Green Eyed Lady" is originally named after a car:)

Ok so here's the deal...
I love to read the comments on my blog, because it really shows that people are reading my blog and they have an opinion about what I am saying. Honestly, I wish more people would comment on my blog postings:) I'm not really sure how I feel about the anonymous comment posts...sometimes I feel they come off a little stalkerish LOL! I hope that doesn't come off the wrong way...I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion so if you disagree/agree with something I write that is totally fine with me, and I would love to hear why you agree or disagree! I love the feedback!

What I need to address is anonymous posts that come off disrespectful! THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AT ALL!!! I will simply delete your post and wont respond to it! I know some people write anonymously because they aren't really into giving their email addresses out or they simply don't want to be known (which, again is fine) but please don't disrespect any of the blog postings. The Green Eyed Lady is really my "baby" and my place online that I can freely be me...and really if you don't like it Please Do Me and My Readers a favor and leave the blog...but PLEASE don't disrespect anything on my site (this includes harmful comments, derogatory language, calling someone fat (I don't really use the "F" word and I would appreciate it if you didn't either), or anything else that you have to question before you type it in the comment box)!!!

Thanks,

Fashion for curvy girls is big business for Toronto sisters

ONLINE SHOPPING STARTS MAY 31, 2010
Article from www.theStar.com
By Derick Chetty
Fashion Reporter

Sexy Bolder You. These three words mean big business for Angela and Karen Samuels.

The words are displayed prominently in Voluptuous, a chain of stores in Toronto that sells trendy fashions in sizes 12 to 20 and is owned and operated by the sisters.

But what sets the four Voluptuous stores apart from other purveyors of plus-size apparel is their unabashed, enthusiastic embrace of fast fashion trends cut for the curvy girl.

Style pundits have always issued a litany of fashion don’ts for larger women:

Avoid loud prints; they’ll only make you look bigger, they’re told. But at Voluptuous, the florals are big, bright and bold.

Skinny jeans are only for skinny girls. Yet here, you’ll find racks of them, and even jeggings, cut for curvy thighs.

A one-piece jumpsuit should only be worn by the tall and lean. In this trend-crazed emporium, the one-piece comes in a variety of colours, including purple satin.

The Jamaican-born Samuels sisters started the company 10 years ago with a single store. Today, they compare their four locations (in Dufferin Mall, Scarborough Town Centre, Square One and Vaughan Mills) to super-trendy favourites like Costa Blanca: the clothes are cheap and cheerful, but curvaceous.

“Traditionally, plus-size was not trendy,” says Angela, 40, who is a statuesque size 14 and a former plus-size model. “But we want girls in high school to look like their peers. We want women just entering the workforce to look like their co-workers. We want women who want to go to clubs to look like the other girls at the clubs.

“I always felt that being plus-size, you’re going to stand out anyway. So if you’re going to be seen, I want you to be seen in a nice light.”

Her sister Karen, 37, says, “We’re just like the skinny girls — we come in pear shapes, hourglass shapes, top heavy or bottom heavy. That’s why we like to use the word voluptuous rather than plus-size. This is a woman who is young, vibrant. She is ready to work, ready to party. She is exactly the same.”

It’s a sentiment shared by one of their best customers, Sheena Snively of MTV Live.

“I can be a size 20 and wear sexy clothes just as well as someone who is a size 2, 4 or 6. I can even rock it better,” she declares.

The Samuels sisters are trying to dispel the notion that plus-size girls can’t or shouldn’t wear trends.

“I feel it’s working because the fashion industry is now noticing the curvy woman,” says Karen.

The fashion world, which has come under much scrutiny in recent years for promoting the ultrathin body type, has begun to show signs that the scales are tipping the other way. Influential designers Miuccia Prada and Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton featured curvier models with ample bosoms and rounded hips in their runway shows for the fall 2010 season.

The edgy fashion glossy V Magazine dedicated a recent issue to plus-size models, and model Crystal Renn, a healthy size 12, graces the cover of the June 2010 issue of Glamour — in a bathing suit no less.

While it’s commendable that popular culture is embracing varied body types, there are still hurdles to overcome — as Lane Bryant, the U.S. retailer of plus-size fashion recently learned.

Major networks refused to air one of the chain’s commercials — featuring a buxom brunette in a red bra and panties — because it was too racy.

“It was nothing different from what one sees on the beach or on television shows like 90210,” Karen Samuels says of the commercial, which can be seen on YouTube. “Except on those shows it’s a size 2 woman with size D implants, and no one has a problem with that.”

This is just one of the double standards the Samuels sisters have faced. One of their biggest struggles has been getting Voluptuous into established malls, notes Angela. “A lot think we are not their target market, that we don’t belong there because what we do goes against what a traditional plus-sized store looks like.”

Whether or not that’s true, the sister act has tapped into a lucrative niche. Even in the tough economic climate of 2009, the company did over $2 million in sales.

They plan to expand (“Our ultimate goal is to go to Yorkdale,” says Angela) and are preparing to enter the biggest shopping arena: online sales. They hope to have an e-commerce site — voluptuousclothing.com — up and running by June.

“We have customers who come from Montreal and even Winnipeg to shop at our stores,” says Karen. “This is the best way for people across Canada and North America to get a piece of us.”

The Samuels sisters did not come by this mini empire easily.

They’re two of six children brought to Toronto from Jamaica by a single mother. She raised them in the tough Jamestown neighbourhood in Rexdale.

Craving a better life, their mother gathered all six kids and moved them to Calgary during the booming oil years.

“That was one of the best things my mom did, moving us to Calgary,” says Karen. “It was a wealthier city. We weren’t, but our neighbours were. Right across the fence was these mansions, and Angela always dreamed of going to live across the fence. She always said, ‘And you’re coming with me to live across the fence.’ ”

Once the sisters finished high school, their mother moved them back to Toronto and moved, again, into a tough neighbourhood: Jane and Finch. “We knew that was not for us. We aspired to be something because we still wanted that big house,” says Karen.

While Karen went to study legal office administration, Angela became a social worker.

Angela began to think of the freedom of owning her own business, while still helping others. “I didn’t want to be behind the elephant always picking up the dump,” she says. “I wanted to be in front of the elephant, leading and showing the way.”

Angela remortgaged her house, and the sisters set about opening the first Voluptuous store in a Toronto mall.

As they prepare to expand their business, Hollywood has come calling for the Samuels sisters.

When Angela, a mother of two, was on a buying trip in Los Angeles in May, she received a call from television executives at ABC. The network wanted to discuss a reality show based on the sisters’ lives and business.

The execs had seen Angela and Karen on an episode of Party Mamas, the Slice network reality show. The episode in question featured Karen’s preparing for her daughter’s sweet 16 birthday.

Now, a Toronto production company has shot a demo chronicling the lives of these two sisters. It’s appropriately titled Voluptuous.

“Angela and Karen are such amazing characters and they are dynamic as sisters,” says Jim Kiriakakis of Buck Productions. “The drive of this (show) would be about the sisters’ struggle to sell their concept of dressing plus-size women in the same styles as those women seen in fashion magazines today.”

No matter where television takes them, the Samuels sisters will not forget why they entered fashion.
**I'm anxious to see the line...from the website pictures I think they will have items that I really like!**

Isn't She Beautiful...

Not that I would ever cut my hair this short, but I think she looks ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS with her head shaved. I know I blogged about Chrisette Michelle shaving her head before (here), but not many people can pull this look off and still look as feminine as she does. I have always believed that if you cut your hair this short, you have to make sure you feminine or the look can come off a little butch! And I think that she has accomplished the look she was going for...she looks great with her hair cut!

Jennifer Hudson spotted at the Cannes Film Festival!

So, call me a hater or whatever but I really don't like the way Jennifer Hudson looks in these pictures! I get that she is the Weight Watchers Spokesperson and she is losing weight for an upcoming wedding, and has to maintain weight loss for Weight Watchers, however, I really don't think she looks good this skinny!
Now this is just my own personal opinion but she should've kept some of her curviness (that may not be a word, but oh well you get what I'm saying)?!?!? The picture at the top isn't that bad, as in the weight is clearly not in her face, but in the picture below she looks weird! I guess everyone has their own body ideals and this is what she wanted to accomplish, but I'm not really a fan!
HONESTLY maybe its the shoes she's wearing that has her legs looking extra skinny...but what was wrong with Jennifer when she looked like this (pic below)...

So I was taking a break from this paper that has been sucking the life out of me (again why did I sign up for Graduate Classes LOL)...and I came across a new blog Reasonable Swanky, which by the way is an ultra fabulous blog! I came across the headline of "What if Celebs were Fat?" so of course it immediately caught my attention. I started reading and this is the link that was connected to her posting Celebuzz Article: What if they were fat?
Followed by these pictures...

This is really sad...I dont know what else to say...

Love What You Have

I have a simple philosophy: I was blessed with this body and this shape, so I will embrace it - wholeheartedly, and with gratitude.
Throughout my entire life, I have been a full figured woman (some times fuller than other times). With a large curvy figure and the tendency to gain weight, I knew that maintaining a healthy body image could be a life-long struggle for me. I could be pressured to live by other people's realities. I could strive to be a size zero, four, five, or even 10. But, as a full hourglass and a half, I decided to live my life to the fullest, with happiness and with self-acceptance, flaunting my curves from New York City to the runways of Paris.
I entered the glamorous world of fashion as a make up artist, with the incredible opportunity to work on grand and creative shows for designer Thierry Mugler. My career took off and I worked throughout Fashion Week in Paris on shows for designers from John Galliano to Chanel. I was thrilled to be among designers, showing off both my makeup skills and bold personal style: big and perfectly coifed hair, fabulous bustiers that showed off my curves, jet-black hair, red fingernails and lips, and of course, flawless makeup. When I attended a Vivienne Westwood show in 1992, the famous and talented Jean Paul Gaultier sat across the runway from me. Then, after the show, some chit-chatting, and a wonderful dinner, Gaultier asked me to be in one of his shows. He wanted to design clothing for my shape and I couldn't wait to be acknowledged for my size and sexiness!
As a model I had amazing experiences finding a fabulous personal style, meeting wonderful people, and embracing my sexy, full figured size. I learned to take charge of my life, be confident in my skin, and understand the shape of my body. We are not all born to be or look like super models, but we are all just as sexy and beautiful. My new book, Size Sexy, is my chance to share my philosophy and beauty tips with women of every size. Full figured women must refuse to be discriminated against based on size and we must remove the terms "fat girl" and "plus size" from our vocabulary. Women need to learn that while we're all built differently, we can all look good, feel good, and be happy!
So, get yourself a new stylish look and stop hiding. You are beautiful and let the world know it. Remember, happy and healthy does not mean thin! Here are tips I'd love to share on how to pick the right clothing to make you look feminine, confident, sexy, and glamorous!
* Figure out your body type and stop wearing baggy, shapeless, and dull clothes. Most size sexy women are shaped like Apples, Pears, Triangles or Hourglasses. Assess your body in a full length mirror and learn it! Knowing your body shape helps you select a wardrobe that flatters your assets and minimizes the areas that are less trim.
* Then, flaunt your assets. If you have a small waist and trim ribcage, wear sweaters or jackets that button just under your bust line. Also, wear belts to define your waistline and emphasize those fabulous curves. Do you have fantastic shoulders? Wear off-the-shoulder tops and brush your hair back to emphasize your bare shoulders. If your bust line is your best asset, wear V-necks and formfitting clothes that glide over, but do not cling to your breasts.
* Hide your challenges. Every body shape has certain challenges, but some of my tips work for all figures. Avoid shapeless and bulky clothing. This means no bubble skirts, bulky sweaters, or loose fitting tunics. These will make you look bigger rather than smaller, and we want to compliment and accentuate the body you have!
* Think about your personal style. How would your friends describe your sense of style? What are your favorite, classic items of clothing? How many pairs of shoes do you own? These answers will help you become more aware of and focused on your image so you can learn to make the impression to desire to make.
* Clean out your closet. Be honest with yourself about each item of clothing. In order to begin the journey to your new sexy and fabulously dressed you, get rid of the old stuff. Is it cheap? Cheap clothing often falls apart so think about clothes as an investment. Is it out-of-date? A fashionable woman never looks dated!
* And most importantly, shift your attitude. There is so much more to you than your size -- so free yourself from it! Be size sexy and remember self-acceptance and a positive attitude make you confident, successful, and happy. It is time that full-figured women rule!
When you project a positive attitude to others, it shows you have strength, self-acceptance, and that nothing makes you feel insecure (because you won't allow it!). Life goes by fast, so now is the time to start living your life to the fullest. Don't wait until you're a certain size to lead a happy, productive life! No more waiting--live now.

Product Review: eShakti Floral Cowl Neck Dress

I was thrilled when eShakti sent me a piece to review. When I slipped it on I loved the way the bottom of the dress poofed out and the top fit close to my body! It definitely slims my midsection, which in my book is always a plus!!!

The item I picked to review is the Floral cowl neck dress which regularly retails for $49.95. eShakti did great on the construction of the dress! It fits perfectly!! Being a plus size woman I have to be conscious of the fabric that my clothes come in…however, with this dress I felt the fabric fit great to my body and the material would work for the summertime (not heavy material that would have me sweating in the summer).

eShakti specializes in custom fit garments, for an extra fee you can have items fit like they have been tailor-made to your body!

eShakti has a lot of great pieces that can easily worked into your wardrobe. The Floral cowl neck dress, had enough detail that I didn’t have to add many accessories. I have paired my Carlos Santana patent leather peep toe shoes to go with the dress.
The pictures are from me trying on the dress…I will post more once I wear the dress so you can see it all put together!

What do you think? Would you order from eShakti?

Plus-size Big Gal Models protest and claim to be shut out of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week

Plus Size Models protest at the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010 Ivina Sotnikava, Kaila Conklin, Belinda Morgan, Kate Hislop, Mackenzie Sipos and Natalie Wakeling Pic. Renee Nowytarger Source: The Daily Telegraph

Article from The Daily Telegraph Below:

BIG may be beautiful but it has been missing in action at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, where Sydney’s leading plus-sized models today staged a protest, claiming they had been shut out of the event.

Natalie Wakeling, a fully-figured beauty and former magazine covergirl, said designers were still stalling on hiring women above size 8, despite public calls for better body diversity.

Prompted to create her own plus-size denim label and surrounded by her Big Gal Models stable mates, Wakeling had expected to return to the runway after starring on a catwalk for women with curves.

The showcase, a positive initiative of the industry and event owner, IMG, was hailed a success last year, but not a single plus-size model has been hired this year.

As BGM agent Darrianne Donnelly confirmed that step forward has gone backwards almost 12 months on.
“While the rest of the world is embracing women with curves, Australian fashion is going backwards. The public wants to see themselves, in all shapes and sizes not just size 6,” Ms Donnelly said.
Organisers declined to make official comment, but deferred questioning to individual designers who are responsible for the model casting for their own shows.
It flies in the face of moves by the Federal Government to set guidelines for positive body image, established by a national advisory panel including industry experts.
However, their findings left the fashion industry to self-regulate.

This Cant Be Good!

Gabourey Sidibe 'Mean' To Reporters, Fans

In an article from the Huffington Post, many say Gabourey Sidibe is a "Mean Girl."

Article Below:
Maybe she was just having a bad day, but Gabourey Sidibe was rude to several reporters at the White House Correspondents Dinner last weekend, according to various media outlets.

Jonathan Capehart writes in the Washington Post that he had been a big fan of Gabby's and was looking forward to meeting her, but she was "mean" to him:
I was thrilled to spot her at a table laughing uproariously with the man sitting to her right. "I know you're having a good time and I'm sorry to interrupt," I began. My next sentence didn't come out because Sidibe shouted over the din, "Yeah, come back in five minutes!" Thinking she was joking, I laughed and pretended to walk away. When I noticed that the look in her eyes meant she was serious, I walked back to her and said, "I just wanted to congratulate you on your nomination. I thought your performance was spectacular. I even wrote a column about it." After wishing her good luck, I rejoined my friends.
Back at the table, I sheepishly related the incident to my colleague Jo-Ann Armao. "Oh! She's horrible," Armao said in her wonderfully blunt way. She told me that she saw Sidibe at the pre-cocktails and told her that she'd seen "Precious" three times (an amazing emotional feat that only adds to my awe of Armao) and that she thought Sidibe's performance was "incandescent." What was Sidibe's response? "I guess I should say, 'Thank you.'"
Later at the MSNBC after party, Capehart writes that a fan approached Gabby for a picture and she refused him. Mediabistro.com also reports that on Saturday night the 'Precious' star was anything but:

When asked for a picture, the less-than-enthused newbie star could barely crack a smile. One photo-seeking fan said jokingly, "that's all you're going to give me," to the pouty Precious. Gabby responded, "you'll get what I give you."
Later in the evening FishbowlDC overheard a Politico reporter asking Gabby for a quick interview. Gabby replied, "one question" and then proceeded to give the reporter a one-word answer. When asked a follow up Q, not-so-Precious said, "sounds like three questions, good night."

***I really hope that she was having a bad day and this isnt really how she has been acting! Acting like this is a SURE way to end your own career early! If she is acting like this someone needs to give her a SERIOUS REALITY CHECK!!!

Ashley Graham on The Tonight Show

Ok so Im a little late...(give me a break this school business is killing me...LOL) Did you catch the plus-size model Ashley Graham on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Friday night? I will admit it, I missed it but I LOVED her when I saw the clip online...Check it Out!!!

Crystal Renn On June Glamour Cover

Crystal Renn appears on the cover of the June 2010 issue of Glamour alongside Alessandra Ambrosio, and Brooklyn Decker. The headline to the cover story photographed by Matthias Vriens-McGrath in St. Barts declares, “Sexy! We’ve got the best swimsuits for every body…Size 2, Size 12, Whatever!”

Crystal leads the editorial that turns the conventional swimwear feature on its head. We’ve seen Alessandra Ambrosio wearing next to nothing for Victoria’s Secret for years, we’ve seen the flawless Brooklyn Decker in Sports Illustrated‘s Swimsuit Edition, but seeing plus model Crystal kick off the story wearing a Zimmermann one-piece and Christian Roth sunglasses in an unpatronizing manner is an act heretofore unseen. What’s so striking about the Glamour cover story is not that it’s not a mere reprise of the “size issues” that have done the rounds of fashion magazines of late, but that Crystal’s right there with the best of the best no matter the size.

Asked by Glamour if there is indeed a movement to use models of all sizes, Crystal is emphatic in responding, “I absolutely believe so. Even Prada showed curvier models this spring.” And why not? If Crystal, Alessandra, and Brooklyn can share the odd cover of Glamour, then the possibilities are limitless.
