Donatella Versace Doesn’t Want to Design Plus-Size Clothes

Why do designers typically refuse to design for sizes above 10? This question is not meant to be confrontational; I’ve just always wondered about this. Is it simply a prejudice? Wouldn’t it be a good business decision? I can understand not wanting to start a stand-alone plus-size line, but what about extending sizes to 14/16? We have money, too! —Daphne L. Scott, Chicago
We do offer larger sizes at Versace, but I take your point. I certainly wouldn’t want to do a plus-size line, as I have no problem with women of any size wearing my clothes. I guess some styles lend themselves to being scaled up, while some others just don’t work. Sometimes it can depend on the specific piece.
So she doesn't want to make larger dresses, but if larger women want to buy her clothes she will gladly take their money. In a genuinely shocking revelation, when asked who she would work for if not Versace she replied, "What if we made very sexy and glamorous Gap? That would be a fun challenge." Hopefully Patrick Robinson will keep her away. The Gap may have its own set of problems, but making the jeans tighter, possibly studded, is not the solution.

Tyra Banks Flaunts New Figure in Photo Shoot
Two weeks ago, Banks talked about her weight loss with CNN's Larry King:
"When I told the world to kiss my fat a--, I remained that size for two years. I maintained it with my ice cream and my salad with ranch dressing and croutons and bacon bits."
Tyra also explained to Larry how she got the idea and motivation to lose the weight -- she started a weight-loss challenge with her "America's Next Top Model" staff members:
"We were sitting around a table and kind of trash talking," Banks said. "And decided to do this challenge because we all love food. I trash talked so much where I had to win -- and I did."

Karl Lagerfeld: curvy women should stay off the catwalk

In response to a popular German magazine that banned thin models from its pages in favour of "real women", Largerfeld said that those who criticised models for looking bony or anorexic were fat " chip-eating", jealous mummies. "No one wants to see curvy women," he was quoted as saying on the website of news magazine Focus.
"You've got fat mothers with their bags of chips sitting in front of the television and saying that thin models are ugly." The world of fashion was about "dreams and illusions", he said, dismissing as "absurd" the debate prompted by Brigitte magazine which said it would no longer feature professional models on its pages.
Lagerfeld, who has subjected himself to a rigorous slimming schedule, described the magazine's decision as absurd and said it had fallen victim to overweight women. The 71-year-old designer added: "Nobody wants to see a round woman."
