Garner Style

Everyday I usually do searches online to see whats new in the Plus Fashion Community. While searching one day I came across the Garner Style website. Garner Style is an image consulting firm that caters to plus size women. Garner Style seeks to help the curvy women achieve the style and class she desires and deserves by expanding her wardrobe options and selecting pieces that accentuate her body.

As I was browsing the Garner Style (http://www.garnerstyle.com/) website...I found 10 Commandments of Fashion that ALL Women should follow.

Take a look below...

10 Commandments of Fashion

10. Thou shalt wear foundations
Foundations shape you, hold you in, give you great posture, and keep you from doing the always distasteful jiggle...even smaller women wear them for control.

9. Thou shalt not carry a bag that is too small.
Have you ever seen a girl whose arm was larger than her bag...what a way to make you look larger than you are. My rule is, if my leg or arm is bigger in width than I don't carry it. When you carry a super small bag then it makes you look huge, this can also work in reverse, carry a larger bag will give you proportion making appear smaller. This does not apply to clutches.

8. Thou shalt dress thy age.
Clothes are a powerful thing, they convey strong messages. They can easily age you or make you look like you are in high school...neither of which is a good look.

7. Thou shalt take care of thyself from head to toe.
Manicures/Pedicures - Nothing is worse than seeing a women looking great until you get to below the ankle. Unkept feet can erase the great look you have put together. Chipped nail polish is a no no...fix it already.
·Eyebrow shaping & waxing
·Facial Waxing if needed
·Haircare - Ladies weaves are great, but please invest in your hair....cheap hair equals cheap look. And for heaven's sake do not slap a straight and silky on textured natural hair.

*Disclaimer - Ladies I am not saying you have to do all these things (you know your strengths & weaknesses - like if you know you have naturally nice hands and jacked up feet then you may only need the pedicure - Evaluate yourself & Be Honest with yourself)*

6. Tailor thy clothes
It makes the world of difference. Nuff said

5. Thy shalt not only wear black
Ladies, I love black too...but when you try to hide behind black it becomes an issue. When dressing I always go for a look that stirs up the senses. Add some color, especially colors that look particularly good on your skin color.

4. Thou shalt not match thy purse, shoes, and belt.
You will look like the 80 year old lady at church or your local Pica dilly.

3. Thou shalt be honest with thyself.
One of the best indicators of whether or not you look good is yourself.

2. Thou shalt complete thy outfit w/ FABULOUS shoes.
A few rules for picking out shoes for an outfit.
· They don't have to match, but they should agree w/ your outfit. Like if you are wearing an all black dress you can throw some leopard shoes in there
·Heels are a must when going out. They hurt I know, but if you know you will standing or dancing for a while bring a back up pair of flip flops or flats....your feet will thank you!
·Don't underestimate the flat shoe.
·Be adventurous.....A fun shoe can bring excitement to a simple wardrobe

1. Thou shall not confine thyself to one or two clothing stores.
This is especially for my plus size ladies. Lane Bryant is not the only store in the world. Go to the "skinny stores." You may find something...cut is key...YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU WILL FIND. I always say think outside the box.

Black is Always Beautiful

So like everyone else I am still getting over Michael Jackson's death, however, being the fashionista that I am I couldn't help but notice the fabulous outfits of the Jackson Sisters (Janet, Latoya, and Rebe) during the Memorial Service.

The Brothers also looked very good in their Black Suits with Gold Neck Ties

Donatella Versace, was contacted by Janet Jackson and requested to outfit the entire clan. EXCELLENT JOB Ms. Versace!!!

Fab Photos of Queen

Queen Latifah looks fabulous in her ALL WHITE on The Good Morning America show!
Latifah's glam squad always does an excellent job.

I personally never feel 100% comfortable in all white, however, if I could rock it like this I would go for it! What are your thoughts?

The ideal body image that everyone aspires to is non-existent. It keeps so many woman unhappy and constantly searching for that elusive figure that is a myth created by the few for the many.

Quote of the Day

"Of course I want to be at a weight where I'm happy, there are times when I go to the gym and really try, and there are times when I just don't. I gain a pound; I lose a pound. But I think I've developed a really good sense of when I'm doing something for myself as opposed to when I'm doing something because of other people's expectations of me."

Love Magazine

I'm a little late (so what...LOL), I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the February Cover of LOVE Magazine. A nude Beth Ditto, singer and gossip columnist for The Guardian, graces the mint green cover with flaming red hair and bubblegum pink tutu to match - the caption reads “Icons of Our Generation”.

Love Magazine, a bi-annual publication covers style and celebrities, with a noticeable emphasis on edgy and fashion-forward photography. LOVE editor Katy Grand on Beth Ditto for the cover: “Everything about the way that Beth looks reminds us not of her imperfections but our own. She has self-assurance and confidence by the truckload. She is happy with who she is and the way she is. Don’t we all wish that we woke up in the morning and felt like that?”
You have to love every inch of yourself to be able to grace the cover of a magazine nude!!! This cover is great because it shows women that you are beautiful at any size and to be proud of the way God made you!

March to the Beat of Your Own Drum....

Singer Kelis has been all over entertainment news lately due to filing for divorce from her rapper husband, Nas. But no matter how much her personal life is talked about, the one thing that can be said is Kelis never misses a beat with an outfit or an accessory that she is wearing! She is known for being 'over the top' with her apparel and I feel that is a good thing.

She has no problem expressing herself whether its through her music or her fashion. I am a true fan of Kelis and her sense of style. I love that she is willing to take risks with her fashion! She makes every outfit her own.

Kelis marches to the beat of her own drum and I love that about her! Maybe we could all take a few lessons from Kelis and march to the beat of our own drum sometimes. We could probably learn a lot about ourselves and what truly makes us happy: )
