Circle of Promise, joins more than 25,000 participants, including 1,600
breast cancer survivors, at the Susan G. Komen New York City Race
for the Cure in Central Park on September 13, 2009. The 5K run/walk
event’s goal was to raise more than $6 million for breast cancer research
and community outreach programs.

Patti LaBelle
In 2005 R&B legend Patti LaBelle had a breast-cancer scare, but didn’t tell anyone in her family about it. LaBelle announced the surprise news at Denise Rich’s biannual Angel Ball for Cancer Research. Since then the star has been actively involved with breast cancer awareness organizations like the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
